When interviewed by Barbara Walters for her annual ABC News special 10 Most Fascinating People in 2009, Gaga dismissed the claim that she is intersex as an urban legend. During the soundcheck for the performance, Gaga said to the crowd: "I'm a bit sick today so I could use all the cheering I could get".
She defended herself stating that she was actually really sick that day and decided to lower her microphone volume and put the backing track louder to cover her hoarse voice.
This performance became famous because of the accusations from the executive producer of show claiming that she did lip-syncing to her song. On September 26, 2008, Gaga performed live at Sunrise. Critics noted similarities between the song and its accompanying music video with Gaga's video for "Bad Romance". In addition to Aguilera's statement, comparisons continued into 2010, when Aguilera released the music video of her single "Not Myself Tonight". Aguilera stated that she was " completely unaware of " and " didn't know if it a man or a woman." Gaga released a statement in which she welcomed the comparisons due to the attention providing useful publicity, saying, " She's such a huge star and if anything I should send her flowers, because a lot of people in America didn't know who I was until that whole thing happened. Towards the end of 2008, comparisons were made between the fashions of Gaga and recording artist Christina Aguilera that noted similarities in their styling, hair, and make-up.
